RAS Indoor Fish Farming Equipment

Fish Tanks

  • Material: Fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), or concrete.
  • Capacity: Ranges from 500 liters to 10,000 liters or more, depending on fish species and production scale.
  • Shape: Circular tanks for better water flow and waste removal or rectangular tanks with proper flow design.
  • Features: Smooth inner surfaces to prevent injuries, overflow outlets, and drain systems.

2. Mechanical Filtration System

  • Purpose: Removes suspended solids (uneaten feed, fish waste).
  • Components:
    • Drum Filter: Fine mesh (20–100 microns) for efficient solid waste removal.
    • Settling Tank/Clarifier: For larger solids.

3. Biological Filtration System

  • Purpose: Breaks down ammonia into less harmful nitrates (nitrification process).
  • Components:
    • Media: Bio-balls, K1 media, or similar high-surface-area materials.
    • Type: Moving Bed Bio-Reactors (MBBR) or Fixed Bed Systems.
    • Flow Rate: Match to system size, ensuring adequate contact time for nitrifying bacteria.

4. Pumping System

  • Types: Centrifugal or submersible pumps.
  • Capacity: Rated for the total water volume, ensuring adequate flow to all parts of the system.
  • Energy Efficiency: High-efficiency pumps reduce operational costs.

5. Aeration and Oxygenation

  • Aerators: Paddlewheels, diffused aeration systems, or air blowers.
  • Oxygen Generators: For high-density systems.
  • Dissolved Oxygen Levels: Maintain 4–8 mg/L for optimal fish health.

6. UV Sterilizer or Ozone Generator

  • UV Sterilizer:
    • Capacity: Match flow rate; typically, 30–150 watts for small to medium systems.
    • Purpose: Eliminates harmful pathogens and algae.
  • Ozone Generator: Optional for advanced sterilization.
